The West Hawaii Today posted an interesting article today about a report prepared by Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law & Economic Justice. The report repeated prior concerns about insurance, but a new fact (at least new to us) is that Hawaii's housing population is aging. And with insurers showing preference for insuring newer homes, while being more demanding of older homes, it highlights the issues we are facing with insurance. For many of us who auto-renewed insurance policies for decades, without much thought, current market conditions will cause us to think about it more. Also challenging, are the issues faced by prospective borrowers who are required to purchase insurance for their loan; when issuing new policies insurers usually inspect the home.
